In his leisure time, Michael Erin enjoys traveling to countries such as Scotland. Those traveling to Scotland may wish to consider spending time in Edinburgh. The city offers picturesque cobblestone streets and a castle with abundant opportunities to learn about local history. The numerous pubs provide some of the best food in Scotland along with a taste of Scottish culture. Edinburgh boasts several public museums with free admittance, as well as many beautiful parks with views of rivers and lakes. Choosing to walk presents a reasonable option, as the city remains fairly compact, and it leaves freedom to explore various lesser sites, such as the many local parks, on the way to the famous Edinburgh Castle and other popular tourist destinations. Having been built and rebuilt innumerable times, Edinburgh Castle dates back as far as the twelfth century and is reputed to be among the most attacked locations in the world over the course of its existence. A former captain in the U.S. Army, Michael Erin returned to civilian life in 2012 and now works as a principal at PacificRock, LLC, in Las Vegas. In addition to his activities at PacificRock, Michael Erin serves as the vice president of development for the Economic Club of Las Vegas, a nonprofit group that provides a forum for the discussion of global economics and public policy. Throughout the year, the Economic Club of Las Vegas hosts a number of prominent speakers from the business, economic, and political arenas. Recently, on January 7, 2016, the organization brought former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley to Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace to speak as part of its U.S. Presidential Candidates Speaker Series. O’Malley, a Democrat who served as the governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015, officially announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential nomination in May of last year. During his address to the Economic Club, the presidential candidate discussed his economic plan to make the American Dream a possibility for all Americans. A nonpartisan organization, the Economic Club of Las Vegas has extended speaking invitations to all 2016 U.S. presidential candidates, both Republican and Democrat. So far, the Club has hosted Governor O’Malley and Senator Rand Paul, who spoke to the organization on December 16, 2015. A former captain and brigade medical plans officer in the United States Army, Michael Erin joined the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance in 2014 as the global initiatives manager. Working with the economic development department and the communications director, he develops strategies to attract new businesses to Nevada. Michael Erin also travels to places such as Washington, DC, to meet with the Nevada congressional delegation and share his organization’s mission to spur economic growth.
Made up of two senators and four House representatives, the United States congressional delegation from Nevada comprises four of the 435 congressional districts in the nation. Democrat Harry Reid and Republican Dean Heller take on the responsibilities of senior and junior senator, respectively. Each hold a six-year term, during which time they serve as the voice of the people. They introduce and amend bills, except for those related to raising revenue. Senator Reid will be up for reelection in 2016 and Senator Heller in 2018. In the House of Representatives, Dina Titus leads the 1st Congressional District, while Mark Amodei, Joseph Heck, and Cresent Hardy oversee, in order, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th districts. Each territory contains 710,000 citizens, with one congressional member representing his or her district for a two-year term. Additionally, each representative has an equal part in electing the president if the Electoral College is unable to do so. Representatives also play a major role in the impeachment process and have the right to present and amend bills. A former captain in the U.S. Army, Michael Erin gravitates toward Pat Conroy’s coming-of-age novel The Lords of Discipline. The son of a military officer, Conroy wrote prolifically about his life experiences in military bases. The Lords of Discipline, for example, was inspired by his time as a student in the Citadel Military Academy in South Carolina. Michael Erin’s interest in the novel is not surprising given the story's rich themes and brutal honesty.
Published in 1980, the book chronicles the life of Will McLean, a cadet in the Carolina Military Institute. Will eventually questions the moral codes imposed upon him and his fellow cadets when he is tasked to keep a watchful eye on the first African American cadet that the institute has admitted. Rumors of a secret organization that aims to get rid of the said cadet stir Will into action. He rallies his comrades, and they start relying on their own moral compasses, searching for truth even if it they have to go against the establishment. Michael Erin is the global initiatives manager at Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, a regional economic development organization. Focusing mainly on organizing and implementing global initiatives, building relationships, and working with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Michael Erin builds worldwide connections in an attempt to expand the economy in Southern Nevada.
The expansion of local businesses and economies into international marketplaces is an important part of economic growth and development. One reason globalization is so important is because it develops new trade opportunities between countries. Because English is the typical business language for international dealings, it is easy for English-speaking businesspersons to find and connect with other English-speaking clients. This common language mode opens up communication, eventually allowing new products to be imported and exported. Further, increased communication between countries provides opportunities for companies to find more affordable distribution processes. As business and industry continue developing and expanding into other countries, specifically those that are still developing, new host countries are experiencing boosts in their economies. As a country’s economy grows, it can gradually become more developed and successful. Countries such as China and India have experienced this growth over recent years through globalization, and they now maintain thriving economies. |
